History of the department

In 1996, as a result of the merger of two institutions – the Almaty Institute of Engineering Transport (ALIIT) and the Almaty Highway Institute (AADI) – the Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications (KazATC named after M. Tynyshpayev) was formed.

In 1996, on the basis of the social and humanitarian departments of these universities, the departments “Philosophy and History” and “Social and Humanitarian Disciplines” were created.

In 2009, as a result of the merger of the departments of “Philosophy, Political Science and History” and “Physical Culture”, the department was renamed into “Social and Humanitarian Disciplines”, which in 2013 became known as “History of Kazakhstan and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines”(HKSHD).

In 2021, the department received a new name – “Social and humanitarian disciplines and physical education”, uniting the departments “HKSHD” and “Physical culture and sport”.

1997 to 2021 the department was headed by: Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Artemiev A.I., Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Urunbasarova E.A., Doctor of Philosophy., Professor Myrzaly S.K., Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Rakhimova A.U., Doctor of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Italmasova R.B.,    Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Docent Anasova K.T., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor Abdirayymova A.S.

Tasks of the department

Currently, the department “SGD and PhE” is the leading structural unit of the Academy, carrying out educational, methodological, scientific work.

The main task of the department is to provide university students with theoretical and practical training in the humanitarian sphere and improve the quality of social and humanitarian education and physical training, instill in them the relevant knowledge, skills, educational skills and competencies in accordance with the State Educational Standard of Higher Professional Education.

Physical training of students is carried out in the sports sections operating in the academy (11 in total), in sports events (up to 80 annually), in participation in the Asian, European, International Universiades and interuniversity summer and winter Universiades of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in competitions of various levels ( intra-faculty, interuniversity, city, regional, republican), the promotion of folk sports games that contribute to the formation of students as highly mobile and physically perfect personalities.

General strategy of the department

The strategic goal of the department is to improve the quality of teaching social and humanitarian disciplines, to increase the role of disciplines in the social and humanitarian block in the process of forming highly qualified specialists in the transport and communication complex for their high competitiveness in the labor market.

Scientific development of the department

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WORK is carried out within the framework of the initiative theme: “The role of social and humanitarian sciences in the modernization of Kazakhstani society.” The department maintains scientific contacts with such large research structures as: the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnology named after A. Ch. Valikhanov, Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B. Suleimenov of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as close collegial contacts with the leading universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in particular, with the KazNU named after Al-Farabi, KazNPU named after Abay Kunanbaev. The results of scientific research of the teaching staff of the department are reflected in publications in leading national and foreign publications.

Innovative vector of development of the department

This vector includes the constant improvement of methods of teaching social and humanitarian disciplines and disciplines in the field of physical culture and sports, which include modern interactive methods, case technologies, heuristic search tasks.

The organization of extra-curricular (additional) work of students and teachers in the activities of student clubs “Miras”, “Tugan zher – altyn besigim”, engaged in the promotion of urgent socio-political problems of the country and it has a great innovative potential.

After school hours, teaching staff and students have the opportunity to engage in sports sections and visit gyms.

A reflection of the public assessment of the innovative potential of the teachers of the department is their participation in advisory and expert councils, as well as the demand for the teaching staff of the department in public and scientific-public organizations.
