6B07199 Nuclear Power Plants and Installations

Training of qualified and competitive specialists in the field of nuclear energy for the operation, maintenance and safe operation of nuclear power plants and installations based on modern technologies, automated control systems and methods of control of technological processes, in order to improve the reliability, safety and efficiency of electricity and heat production.

The educational program 6B07199 “Nuclear Power Plants and Installations” is aimed at training specialists for the nuclear power industry with an emphasis on the study of the principles of operation of nuclear power plants, reactor systems, thermal power equipment and automated control systems for nuclear power plants. A distinctive feature of the program is the comprehensive training of students, combining knowledge in the field of nuclear physics, thermal power engineering, radiation safety, operation of power equipment and modern digital technologies. Particular attention is paid to nuclear and radiation safety, equipment reliability, prevention of emergencies and compliance with international requirements for the operation of nuclear power facilities.

– Practical skills in participating in the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of equipment for nuclear power plants and nuclear power plants.

– Practical skills and abilities to study the principles of operation of nuclear reactors, heat removal systems, steam generators, turbine equipment and auxiliary systems of nuclear power plants.

– Practical skills in organizing and controlling technological processes at nuclear power facilities, analyzing the operating parameters of equipment and assessing the reliability of its operation.

– Ability to perform heat engineering and engineering calculations, analyze the parameters of the coolant, pressure, temperature and power, as well as assess the efficiency of power plants.

– Practical skills in the use of automated control systems and modern digital technologies for monitoring and control of technological processes at nuclear power plants.

– Knowledge of the principles of nuclear and radiation safety, radiation monitoring methods, occupational health and environmental safety requirements for the operation of nuclear power plants.

– Ability to identify and analyze potential equipment malfunctions, assess the risks of emergency situations and apply methods for preventing accidents at nuclear power facilities.

– Knowledge of methods for assessing the energy efficiency, reliability and safety of nuclear power plants, taking into account current regulatory requirements and modern nuclear energy technologies.

Graduates of the Bachelor’s programme ‘Nuclear Power Plants and Installations’ will be able to work at nuclear power plants, power plants, power plants, industrial facilities and organisations related to the operation and safety of power equipment.

Main places of employment:

  1. NAC Kazatomprom JSC is the national nuclear company of Kazakhstan
  2. MAEK LLP is an energy complex with power plants and installations

Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP is an organization in the field of nuclear energy development

For the training of highly qualified specialists, in accordance with the requirements of higher education, it is necessary today to have a modern material and technical base. The department has specialized laboratories, and a branch of the department also operates on the basis of the Almaty power supply division. Friendly, scientific and methodological relations have been established and actively maintained with the Omsk State University of Railway Engineering, the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (RUT), the Samara State University of Railway Engineering, the Ural State University of Railway Engineering, the Technical University of Dresden, the Institute of Transport Studies of the University of California, the Korean National University of Transport, the Lanzhou University of Transport and Communications, the International University of Logistics and Transport of Wroclaw and other partner universities. The result of this cooperation is the academic mobility of students in major disciplines.

Partners and potential bases of practice are Almaty Power Plants (AlES), including CHPP-1, CHPP-2, CHPP-3 and other heat power facilities, Allageyim Electric, branches of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC – power supply divisions, Alatau Zharyk Company JSC (AZhK), Almaty Metro Kurylys LLP and other energy enterprises. Interaction with specialized organizations contributes to the acquisition of practical skills in the operation and maintenance of power equipment, the study of modern technologies for the production and distribution of thermal energy, as well as the formation of professional competencies of future specialists in the field of heat power engineering.

Students of the educational program 6B07199 “Nuclear Power Plants and Installations” undergo all types of internships in leading companies in Kazakhstan, including Almaty Power Plants (AlES) – CHP-1, CHP-2, CHP-3 and other facilities, Allageyim Electric, branches of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC – power supply distances, Alatau Zharyk Company JSC (AZhK), Almaty Metro Kurylys LLP and other energy enterprises. The advantage is the opportunity for nonresident students to undergo practical training at the place of residence in various regions of Kazakhstan in the presence of relevant branches and partner enterprises.

IAEA certificates – training in the areas of nuclear and radiation safety, physical protection of nuclear facilities and safe operation of nuclear power plants; Siemens Energy Power Academy certificates – operation of power equipment, steam turbines, automation and process control systems of power plants; Schneider Electric certificates – industrial automation, control and control systems for power equipment; certificates for radiation protection and energy safety.
