On May 12, ALT University held a flower-laying ceremony at the memorial of the eminent public and statesman, an active representative of the “Alash” movement, and the first Kazakh railway engineer — Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev, whose name the university proudly bears.
The commemorative event was dedicated to the 147th anniversary of the birth of a man whose name has become a symbol of service to the people, progress, education, and engineering thought in Kazakhstan. The ceremony was attended by the university leadership, faculty, staff, and students. Participants honored the memory of the great figure with a minute of silence, expressing deep respect for his life path and immense contribution to the country’s development.
A special guest of the event was Nurshaken Zhunisova, President of the “Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev” Foundation and great-niece of the late statesman. In her speech, she shared memories of Tynyshpayev’s personality and legacy, highlighting his devotion to the people and his relentless pursuit of enlightenment and the advancement of the Kazakh intelligentsia.
Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev entered history as the first Kazakh railway engineer and a graduate of the Imperial Institute of Railway Engineers in Saint Petersburg. He participated in the implementation of major infrastructure projects, making a significant contribution to the development of the transport sector and the regional railway system, while also remaining highly active in social and political life.
As a prominent representative of the “Alash” movement, Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev advocated for the development of education, science, national identity, and the modernization of society. His ideas on the importance of knowledge, engineering, and service to the motherland remain relevant to this day.
Following the ceremony, a documentary dedicated to the life and public activities of Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev was screened for students and staff. The film allowed the younger generation to gain a deeper understanding of the biography of this outstanding figure and reflect on the scale of his historical legacy.
For ALT University, the name of Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev holds profound significance. As Kazakhstan’s first transport university, the institution continues to advance engineering, transport, digital, and technological education while maintaining the continuity of generations and respect for national history.
In the autumn of 2026, the Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev ALT University will celebrate its 95th anniversary. Over its nearly century-long history, the university has become one of the country’s leading technical institutions, training thousands of specialists for the transport, engineering, logistics, and infrastructure sectors of Kazakhstan.
Today, the university combines its rich historical heritage with modern technologies, developing fields such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, robotics, logistics, and intelligent transport systems. The memory of Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev serves not only as a part of the university’s history but also as a vital moral compass for students and young professionals.
