On April 28, 2026,   а delegation from ALT University paid an official visit to the “Almatygenplan” Research Institute. The meeting marked a new milestone in cooperation within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Given the institute’s status as a leading specialized research entity, the negotiations primarily focused on integrating academic science into real-world urban planning processes. The parties discussed close cooperation across the university’s key educational programs: Architecture, Urban Planning, Cadastre, and Civil and Industrial Engineering.

Special emphasis was placed on the practical training of future specialists. The parties agreed to involve leading experts from the Research Institute in supervising the diploma projects of ALT University students. This will enable graduates to conduct research based on the actual data of the city’s master plan, addressing specific challenges in urban infrastructure development. Furthermore, the institute is set to become a key platform for student internships, providing access to unique expertise in urbanism and design.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Launch of Joint Master’s Programs: Training specialists capable of working with digital city models and “green” construction principles.
  • Research Cluster: Implementation of joint research projects and the search for innovative solutions in seismic resilience and urban planning analysis.
  • Expert Exchange: Organizing joint international symposia and conferences to discuss trends in modern architecture and sustainable territorial development.

The synergy between ALT University and the “Almatygenplan” Research Institute establishes a solid foundation for training highly qualified professionals whose knowledge and skills will directly contribute to creating a safe, comfortable, and inclusive urban environment for Almaty.
