On October 22, 2026, ALT University held a practice-oriented masterclass for early-career lecturers entitled “Innovative Methods for Developing Professional Competencies in Future Transport Industry Specialists.”
The session was led by Nadezhda Vladimirovna Devetyarova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Logistics and Business at ALT University, who presented modern approaches to organizing practical classes, developing students’ analytical thinking, and integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial challenges.
From Theory to Practice: Improving the Effectiveness of Engineering Education
The masterclass focused on a practical example entitled “Calculation of Operating Parameters and Productivity of a Belt Conveyor.”
This topic demonstrated how complex engineering concepts can be presented in an accessible, structured, and interactive manner while maintaining their professional relevance.
Particular attention was paid to developing students’ skills in engineering analysis, performing technical calculations, interpreting results, and applying theoretical knowledge to practical problems.
Modern Teaching Tools and Methodologies
During the masterclass, three key methodological approaches were demonstrated:
1. Visual Aids and Learning Materials. Specialized graphical and calculation-based analytical documentation helps students better understand technical processes, work with initial data, and independently complete practical assignments.
2. Interactive Knowledge Assessment. The use of game-based activities during the final review increases student engagement, provides an opportunity to assess understanding of the material, and makes knowledge assessment more dynamic.
3. Practice-Oriented Teaching. A structured approach combining theoretical foundations, technical calculations, and analysis of results helps connect academic content with the practical requirements of modern industry.
Why Is This Important for Early-Career Lecturers and Students?
For early-career lecturers, the masterclass provided a platform for exchanging teaching experience and exploring methodological tools that can be adapted to various technical, transport, and logistics-related disciplines.
Such initiatives contribute to the development of teaching excellence, strengthen mentoring practices, and encourage the introduction of modern educational approaches into the learning process.
For students, these teaching methods support a transition from passive knowledge acquisition to active participation in learning. This is particularly important in transport-related education, where professional activities require accurate calculations, analytical thinking, technical competence, and the ability to make well-founded decisions.
The practical value of the masterclass lies not only in demonstrating a specific teaching methodology but also in sharing professional experience that can contribute to improving the quality of education for future engineers and transport industry specialists.
ALT University places particular emphasis on the professional development of its faculty members, the dissemination of effective teaching practices, and the continuous improvement of educational processes in line with the evolving needs of the transport industry.
Contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- SDG 4 — Quality Education. Enhancing lecturers’ professional competencies, introducing interactive and practice-oriented teaching methods, and improving the quality of engineering and transport education.
- SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth. Developing the professional and technical skills of future specialists to support their employability and meet the demands of the modern labor market.
- SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Strengthening engineering thinking, technical competencies, and problem-solving skills essential for technological development in the transport industry.
The professional development of today’s educators lays the foundation for preparing highly qualified specialists of tomorrow.
