On April 28, 2026, the faculty of the “Rolling Stock” Department of the Institute of Transport and Construction at ALT University, together with 3rd-year students, conducted a community cleanup day (subbotnik) at the Correctional Boarding School No. 4 for blind and visually impaired children named after N. Ostrovsky in Almaty.

The event was organized as part of the department’s social and charitable initiative aimed at supporting educational institutions and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

During the cleanup, the faculty and students carried out a comprehensive range of landscaping and sanitation works: they cleared leaves and household waste, swept adjacent areas, and performed greenery maintenance, including digging around flower bushes and trees and tidying up green zones. Special attention was paid to creating a comfortable and safe environment for the boarding school students.

The participation of the faculty in such initiatives reflects not only a high level of social responsibility but also a commitment to making a practical contribution to the development of urban infrastructure and improving the quality of the educational environment. The cleanup day served as an important example of active citizenship, demonstrating the significance of collective efforts in addressing ecological and social challenges.

The event was implemented within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

 SDG 13 – Climate Action
Fostering environmentally responsible behavior and participating in the landscaping and greening of territories helps reduce negative impacts on the environment and maintain ecological balance.

SDG 15 – Life on Land
Caring for green spaces, maintaining cleanliness, and preserving natural elements of the urban environment are aimed at protecting and restoring ecosystems.

The implementation of such events contributes to the formation of sustainable values, the development of environmental consciousness, and the strengthening of the bond between the university and society.

SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
The initiative contributes to improving the urban environment, creating favorable conditions for living and learning, and developing inclusive and safe public spaces.
