As part of the activities of the “Engineering Mathematics and Its Applications in Other Fields” club, a meeting with students entitled “Applied Problems and Small-Scale Research Projects” was held at Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev ALT University JSC.
All club members and faculty members involved in its activities contributed to the meeting. The purpose of the event was to introduce students to opportunities for applying mathematical knowledge to solve practical problems and carry out small-scale research projects.
During the meeting, the instructors presented the main stages of working on an applied problem: defining the problem, selecting appropriate mathematical methods, analysing the results, and formulating conclusions. Students were also given guidance on how to choose a topic for a small-scale study, set an achievable objective, and develop a work plan.
Particular attention was paid to the links between mathematics and engineering, information technology, physics, and environmental science. The participants discussed the use of mathematical modelling, data processing, and visual presentation of results in student projects.
The students had an opportunity to ask questions about selecting research topics and organizing their research activities. The main areas of the club’s work and opportunities to participate in upcoming events were also presented.
The meeting contributed to the development of students’ analytical thinking, independence, and interest in research activities. Working on applied problems and small-scale projects helps students connect theoretical knowledge with their future professional practice.
The event supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, “Quality Education,” by expanding opportunities for students to develop their research and professional skills.
