ALT University and China’s Jiangsu Normal University Kewen College open a new chapter of cooperation
September 21, 2026 marked the day the academic bridge between Almaty and China’s Xuzhou grew a little shorter. That day, the halls of ALT University buzzed with an unusual mix of languages — Kazakh, Russian and Chinese — as a delegation from Jiangsu Normal University Kewen College arrived for an official visit.
The five-member delegation was led by Liu Xiaolian, Secretary of the Party Committee and Head of the Delegation, joined by Shen Shan, Dean of the Faculty of Economics; Hou Jiaxu, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences; Zhao Junyan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Management; and Li Yue, representing the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange.
The high point of the meeting came when pen met paper: leadership from both universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). It’s the first formal step of many — the finer points of cooperation will be worked out in follow-up discussions.
Around the table, the conversation ranged widely — from research and teaching practice for Jiangsu Normal University Kewen College’s master’s students to double degree programs and academic mobility for students and faculty alike. The idea that stood out most: the possibility of Chinese students coming to study directly at ALT University.
After the formalities, guests were taken on a campus tour spanning modern classrooms, academic buildings and — a highlight of the itinerary — the new student dormitory. That stop was no accident: free housing and three daily meals for students are among the cooperation terms on the table, and it clearly caught the delegation’s attention.
The visit wrapped up on a warm note, with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo. Behind the freshly signed documents lies a growing list of new opportunities for students on both sides.
