M. Tynyshpayev ALT University hosted the International Scientific and Technical Conference titled “Current Problems of Transport, Mechanics, and Materials Science,” bringing together researchers and specialists from 24 countries. The conference was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and Director of the Institute of Transportation Sciences and Technologies, Bagdat Teltaev.
The conference brought together representatives from the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS RK), research organizations, universities, transportation industry professionals, faculty, and researchers. Discussions focused on key issues in transportation development, infrastructure reliability, advanced materials, and engineering technologies.
The scientific program featured a plenary session, 16 keynote lectures, and seven specialized technical sessions. Presentations were delivered by prominent scholars and experts from leading universities and research centers across Kazakhstan and abroad, including Italy, Japan, South Korea, China, the United States, Russia, and other countries.
Sectional sessions covered automotive and railway engineering, aviation, maritime, and pipeline transport, metro systems, transit and logistics, mechanics of deformable solids, geomechanics and geotechnics, theory of machines and mechanisms, robotics, fluid and gas mechanics, and advanced materials science.
President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akylbek Kurishbayev, delivered an opening address to the attendees. He emphasized the strategic importance of transport infrastructure for Kazakhstan, noting that the expansion of highways and transit corridors must be supported by rigorous scientific and technological solutions.
His address highlighted the long-standing research legacy of Academician Bagdat Teltaev and the scientific school he established. Key breakthroughs include advancing national methodologies for highway design and maintenance, as well as developing the KazPave pavement engineering system, tailored to Kazakhstan’s regional climatic conditions and heavy traffic loads.
“This is a striking example of how fundamental knowledge, engineering expertise, and dedicated labor transform into applied solutions that reduce our country’s technological dependency,” noted Akylbek Kurishbayev.
During the conference, the President of the NAS RK outlined four strategic directions for ongoing collaboration: deploying predictive analytics tools powered by real-time road monitoring, creating a joint validation test site, launching pilot initiatives covering complete technological chains — including the scaling of KazPave — and pooling human and computational resources across research institutions and universities.
Meruert Zharmagambetova, Chairman of the Board – Rector of ALT University, highlighted the significance of the conference for the university as it celebrates its 95th anniversary this year.
She noted that ALT University continues to advance its rich traditions of engineering and transport education by integrating cutting-edge science, practice-oriented instruction, and active industry partnerships. The Rector specifically emphasized the university’s growing collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“It is particularly meaningful for ALT University that Bagdat Burkhanbayevich Teltaev began his professional and scientific journey right here. Within these walls, he received his engineering education and took his first professional steps. Today, decades later, we honor him as an Academician and scientist who has made a profound contribution to national transport science,” stated Meruert Zharmagambetova.
Throughout the conference, researchers presented findings across a broad spectrum of topics — from the performance and behavior of modern materials to infrastructure reliability, advanced engineering applications, and training the next generation of specialists.
Participants placed special emphasis on digital and smart solutions for the transportation sector. The agenda featured studies on artificial intelligence applications in highway monitoring, digital twins of road infrastructure, machine-learning-based temperature forecasting for pavement structures, novel asphalt concrete mixtures, and technologies for extending pavement service life.
The conference served as an international platform for professional dialogue between the scientific community, academia, and industry leaders, convening experts from 24 countries to address key transport challenges and advanced engineering solutions. The 60th anniversary of Academician Bagdat Teltaev provided a fitting occasion to recognize his lasting contributions to national transport science while mapping out future directions for scientific and technological innovation in the industry.
