On March 31, 2026, the Department of Information and Communication Technologies held the “Green IT” Hackathon, dedicated to the development of innovative IT solutions in the areas of sustainable development, energy efficiency, and environmental digitalization. The goal of the event was to engage students in creating projects aimed at the rational use of resources, reducing carbon footprints, and developing green technologies in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7 and SDG 12).
The main areas of the hackathon were: Green AI, Smart Energy, Renewable Energy, Waste Management, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Smart City, Data Science for Ecology, and IoT for Green Tech. Based on the results of the first stage, eight projects advanced to the second stage.
According to the competition results:
- The “Better Forest” project, completed by students Myktybai N.B. and Tashbolat Zh.B., won first place. Under the supervision of A.A. Kayrzhanova;
- 2nd place went to the “EcoWatt” project, completed by students N.B. Orakov and E.A. Leontyev, under the supervision of D.T. Kasymova;
- 3rd place was shared between the “EcoSmart AI” and “Smart Electricity Meters” projects, prepared by students A.T. Bidakhmetova, N.E. Kurmantai, Zh. Sanatkyzy, I.A. Unerbayev, and S.A. Kamidov, under the supervision of Zh.Zh. Blen and Zh.S. Nurgaliev.
The hackathon prize fund was:
- 1st place — 50,000 tenge;
- 2nd place — 30,000 tenge;
- 3rd place — 20,000 tenge.
The remaining participants were awarded certificates. We plan to continue holding competitions and startups in IT fields. We express our sincere gratitude to the jury members, as well as to production representatives Zh.S. Nurgaliev and B.N. Seitkali. Special thanks to the project supervisors for their contribution to the preparation of the participants.
