A meaningful debate on the topic “Should Kazakhstan build a nuclear power plant?” was organized among 3rd-year students of the Department of Automation and Control at the Institute of Energy and Digital Technologies. The event was held within the framework of the Center for Sustainable Development and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) — Affordable and Clean Energy.
During the debate, students were divided into two teams and comprehensively discussed the advantages and disadvantages of constructing a nuclear power plant. Key aspects such as environmental safety, economic feasibility, energy shortages, modern technologies, and public opinion were thoroughly examined. Each team supported its position with well-grounded arguments and actively responded to opposing viewpoints.
Such discussion platforms enable students to develop not only theoretical knowledge but also essential practical skills. In particular, they enhance critical thinking, analytical abilities, argumentation skills, teamwork, and public speaking confidence. Moreover, students gain a deeper understanding of current issues in the energy sector and become familiar with global trends.
This debate contributed to both the professional and personal development of students and played an important role in shaping them into competent and responsible future specialists.
