In April 2026, students from the RET-23-1k, RET-23-2k, and RET-23-5k groups embarked on an educational journey to the Ykhlas Museum of Folk Musical Instruments in Almaty.

Historical Background: Established in 1980, the museum is located in a stunning wooden architectural monument dating back to 1908. Named after the legendary kobyz player Ykhlas Dukenuly, the museum is a treasure trove of heritage, housing instruments from over 50 different countries.

Why it mattered for RET (Radio Engineering) students: As future specialists in telecommunications, students had a unique opportunity to explore acoustics and the technical evolution of sound production. Analyzing the structural design of ancient instruments provided practical insights into wave propagation and signal nature.

“While we work with digital technologies every day, hearing the raw sound of the dombra and kobyz inspired us profoundly,” the students shared. The visit successfully blended professional interests with cultural enrichment, fostering a sense of national pride and global perspective.
