On September 24, 2026, teachers and students of the military department of ALT UNIVERSITY took part in a flower-laying ceremony at the memorial plaque at the house in Almaty where the first Minister of Defense of independent Kazakhstan, Hero of the Soviet Union, Halyk Kaharmany, Army General Sagadat Kozhakhmetovich Nurmagambetov lived.
The participants of the event honored the memory of an outstanding military commander and statesman who gave his life to serve the Motherland. Sagadat Nurmagambetov went through the military path from the commander of a machine-gun platoon to the commander of a rifle battalion, participated in the liberation of a number of territories of the USSR and European countries, ending the war in Berlin. In 1945, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his courage and heroism during the Great Patriotic War.
A special place in the history of independent Kazakhstan is occupied by the activities of Sagadat Kozhakhmetovich during the formation of the national Armed Forces. In 1992, he was appointed the first Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan and played a significant role in shaping the structure and foundations of the modern Kazakh army. In 1994, he was awarded the title of Halyk Kaharmany — he became the first citizen of Kazakhstan to be awarded this high state award.
For teachers and students of the military department, participation in the ceremony was not only a tribute to the memory of the hero, but also an important element of military-patriotic education. Such events help the younger generation to comprehend the meaning of concepts of Fatherland, military duty, honor, courage, responsibility and loyalty to one’s people, forming a respectful attitude towards the history of the country and the continuity of generations.
Sagadat Nurmagambetov’s life path is an example of a combination of professionalism, discipline, personal responsibility and selfless service to the Motherland. It is these qualities that are of particular importance for students undergoing military training and who in the future will be called upon to perform civil and military duty.
The event corresponds to the values of the “Tolyk Adam – Zhyly Zhurek” concept, focused on the upbringing of a comprehensively developed personality with morality, responsibility, humanity and willingness to benefit society and their country. In this context, the memory of outstanding statesmen and military figures contributes to forming in youth not only a sense of patriotism, but also “zhyly zhurek” — a kind heart, respect for people, historical memory and a conscious attitude to their civic duty.
The participation of ALT UNIVERSITY students in the flower-laying ceremony has become an important educational event aimed at preserving historical memory, strengthening the continuity of military-patriotic traditions and forming high moral qualities among future defenders of the Fatherland.
The memory of Sagadat Kozhakhmetovich Nurmagambetov continues to serve the younger generation as an example of courage, honor and selfless service to the Motherland.
