On April 10, Astana hosted the round table “Contribution of universities to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”, which brought together more than 110 participants from 89 higher education institutions in Kazakhstan.

The event, organized by the Institute of Economic Research JSC with the support of the UN Country Team, became the first platform for a systematic dialogue involving the leadership of universities and specialized departments responsible for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, Ms. Sarango Radnaragcha, delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the key role of universities as engines of sustainable transformation, centers of human capital formation and innovation.

During panel sessions and an interactive workshop, participants discussed integrating SDG principles into university governance, developing skills for a sustainable future, the role of scientific research, strengthening student participation, a gender-inclusive environment, and expanding partnerships.

Following the meeting, practical recommendations were developed aimed at strengthening the contribution of Kazakhstan’s higher education system to achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
