History of the Department of Language Education

The history of the Department of Language Education is closely linked with the establishment and development of M. Tynyshpayev ALT University. Over the years, the structure has evolved significantly while maintaining academic traditions and modernizing the teaching process.

Historical Milestones:

• 1968 — Established as the Russian and Foreign Languages section (5 instructors) under Kh.Zh. Satybaldina at the Almaty branch of the Tashkent Institute of Railway Transport Engineers.

• 1976 — Reorganized under the Almaty Institute of Railway Transport Engineers (AlIIT). Led by Cand. Sc., Prof. L.F. Tolmacheva until 1991, expanding to 15 instructors across English, German, French, and Russian.

• 1991 — Split into two independent units: Foreign Languages (headed by Prof. L.F. Tolmacheva) and Kazakh and Russian Languages (headed by M.Zh. Isingarina).

• 1996 — Maintained operational leadership following the creation of the Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications.

• 2004–2006 — Led by Cand. Sc., Assoc. Prof. A.K. Omarova (2004) and Cand. Sc. B.Kh. Ismagulova (2006).

• 2009 — Merged into a unified Department of Languages under Dr. Sc., Prof. B.Kh. Ismagulova (until 2010), comprising nearly 30 instructors.

• 2010–2020 — Headed successively by Cand. Sc., Assoc. Prof. B. Zhardamaliyeva, Cand. Sc., Assoc. Prof. F.I. Smailova, and Cand. Sc., Assoc. Prof. Z.D. Bekmambetova.

• 2021 — Reorganized under the Academy of Logistics and Transport; senior lecturer G.U. Kalkabayeva managed the 19-member faculty team.

• 2021–2022 — Renamed the Department of Language Training, led by Cand. Sc., Assoc. Prof. F.I. Smailova.

• Present Status — Currently operating under its updated official institutional title — Department of Language Education.

Faculty & Academic Programs: The Department of Language Education features a qualified faculty including Associate Professors, Senior Lecturers, and Masters of Philology. The department delivers courses in Kazakh, Russian, General and Professional Foreign Languages, Chinese, Academic Writing, and Organization and Planning of Scientific Research.

The department is fully equipped with modern educational tech, interactive whiteboards, and academic resources to support multilingual education standards.
