The ITF and RS Research Laboratory

The “Infrastructure of Transport Facilities and Rolling Stock” Testing Laboratory of the ALT University named after Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpayev (JSC) carries out comprehensive research and testing of civil engineering structures, building materials, transport infrastructure components, and railway rolling stock.

The laboratory’s activities are strictly governed by technical regulations, state standards (GOST, ST RK, SP RK), and specialized methodological guidelines.

  1. Technical Inspection and Testing of Civil Engineering Structures
  • Comprehensive Testing and Inspection of Structures: Includes concrete, reinforced concrete, and metal spans, as well as bridge piers. This involves visual and geometric control, assessment of strength, stiffness, and crack resistance using loading methods, plastic deformation, shock pulse, and ultrasonic testing.
  • Technical Inspection of Underwater Bridge Foundations: Specialized diagnostic work to assess the condition of bridge support structures located underwater.
  • Diagnostics of Reinforcement and Protective Layers: Determining the location and diameter of reinforcement bars and the thickness of the concrete cover using magnetic induction methods.
  • Instrumental Monitoring and Stress-Strain Analysis: Determining deflections, displacements, actual stresses, and dynamic factors using strain gauge methods and spectral analysis.
  • Expert Assessment and Documentation: Calculation of load-bearing capacity, determination of permissible travel speeds, assessment of the impact of shrinkage cracks, and preparation of as-built documentation based on survey and inspection results.
  1. Soils
  • Sampling, determination of moisture content, density, liquid limit, and plastic limit.
  • Particle Size Distribution: Sieve and hydrometer methods.
  • Testing for subsidability, swelling, compressibility coefficient, and deformation modulus.
  • Determination of shear resistance, angle of internal friction, and cohesion.
  • Uniaxial and triaxial compression testing.
  • Permeability coefficient (filtration).
  • Statistical processing of results.
  1. Railway Rolling Stock
  • Testing of freight and passenger cars (tank cars, boxcars, gondolas, flatcars, hoppers, dump cars).
  • Determination of Dynamic Qualities: Vertical and horizontal dynamic coefficients, stability against derailment and overturning, and determination of permissible speeds.
  • Running, Dynamic, and Track-Impact Testing: Evaluation of rolling stock using both experimental and computational methods.
  • Weight Distribution Control: Wheel-by-wheel weighing of rolling stock.
  1. Rails and Track Superstructure Components
  • Determination of dynamic stresses and wheel-rail-sleeper-ballast interaction forces using computational and experimental methods.
  • Monitoring of loads and stresses in sleepers and ballast.
  • Analysis of track superstructure performance under moving and static loads.
