As part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDG 4 — “Quality Education” and SDG 16 — “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions,” ALT University hosted student debates organized by the “ALASH DEBATE” club in celebration of the Republic Day of Kazakhstan.
The event aimed to foster civic engagement among young people, develop critical thinking skills, and provide a platform for open discussion of pressing social issues.
The debate was held in the British Parliamentary format and featured four teams. Participants presented evidence-based arguments, responded to opposing viewpoints, and demonstrated their public speaking skills.
The following topical issues were discussed during the debate:
- “Is military service a duty of every man today, or is it not?”
- “Are women’s and men’s rights equal in Kazakhstan?”
- “Does the emigration of young people from Kazakhstan have a negative impact on the country’s development?”
In the final round, participants debated the topic “Is a diploma the key to the future?”
The debate helps young people strengthen their critical thinking skills, develop a culture of constructive and fair discussion, and cultivate a responsible attitude toward social issues.
Events like this enhance students’ intellectual potential and encourage them to become active citizens who care about the future of their country.
