On May 28, ALT University held an engaging and insightful seminar to mark World Environment Day, celebrated globally on June 5. The event was organized by the faculty of the “Life Safety” discipline, under the Department of “ATS and Life Safety,” and brought together students and staff committed to sustainability and environmental protection.

The seminar welcomed first-year students of the “Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection” program, as well as student activists from various academic backgrounds. It became a vibrant platform for learning, discussion, and the exchange of ideas around environmental responsibility.

Assistant Professor L. Bimagambetova opened the seminar with a comprehensive overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She explained the origins of the SDGs and their importance in shaping a more sustainable future. Her presentation emphasized the vital role of sustainability in building environmentally and socially resilient communities, inspiring students to think critically about their personal impact on the planet.

Next, Lecturer A. Torgayev presented a powerful talk on “Environmental Issues in Kazakhstan.” His presentation covered pressing challenges such as air pollution, water scarcity, land degradation, and industrial waste. The talk sparked dynamic discussions among students, who actively engaged with questions and contributed ideas for addressing environmental problems both locally and globally.

The seminar concluded with an exciting interactive eco-quiz, conducted by Associate Professor E. Dyusembin and Lecturer B. Kurmashev using the Kahoot platform. Students competed enthusiastically, showcasing their environmental knowledge in a fun and friendly competition. The winner received a special prize from the organizers.

At the end of the event, students shared their impressions, noting how much they had learned and how inspired they felt to make positive environmental changes in their daily lives. The seminar not only broadened their academic horizons but also reinforced ALT University’s commitment to promoting sustainability and environmental awareness among youth.
