In Almaty, at the venue of Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satpayev, a working meeting was held as part of the extended board session of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic: “Higher Education and Science: The Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.”

From ALT University named after M. Tynyshpayev, the meeting was attended by Chairperson of the Management Board – Rector Meruert Sovetovna Zharmagambetova and University Founder Gulzana Beibitovna Serikova. The session presented key directions for the digital modernization of higher education and the scientific sector.

Opening the event, representatives of the Ministry emphasized that the modernization of science and higher education requires a transition to new management models and the active implementation of digital solutions. Particular attention was given to the systemic integration of artificial intelligence technologies into the educational process and scientific research.

It was noted that further development of the sector is impossible without deep digital transformation, infrastructure renewal, and the adaptation of university programs to the requirements of the modern technological environment.

During the meeting, issues related to improving educational policy within the framework of the Concept for the Development of Science and Higher Education for 2023–2029 were discussed. Participants highlighted the need to move from narrowly specialized training to the formation of universal competencies combining professional knowledge, digital skills, data analytics, and the use of artificial intelligence tools.

It was emphasized that the effective application of modern technologies will enhance the quality of scientific research, update the content of educational programs, and strengthen the international competitiveness of universities in Kazakhstan.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, the development of universities’ digital infrastructure, and the use of advanced IT solutions, including tools based on large language models and supercomputing capacities.

Participants noted that digital platforms and AI tools can significantly increase the effectiveness of scientific research, automate analytical processes, and expand opportunities for academic collaboration.

The session also addressed:

  • increasing the international attractiveness of Kazakhstani universities;

  • development of the “Study in Kazakhstan” initiative;

  • attraction of international students;

  • commercialization of research results;

  • alignment of educational programs with labor market needs;

  • support for startup projects and technological entrepreneurship.

Issues of grant and program-targeted funding, development of the innovation ecosystem, and expansion of cooperation with international IT companies were also considered.

The participation of ALT University’s leadership in the extended board meeting confirms the university’s active position in the digital transformation of higher education and science.

ALT University views digitalization and the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies as one of its strategic development priorities, including:

  • updating educational programs;

  • integrating AI tools into the learning process;

  • advancing research in digital technologies;

  • training a new generation of specialists for the digital economy.

Following the meeting, specific objectives were identified to accelerate the digital modernization of the higher education and science system, implement artificial intelligence technologies, and improve the quality of workforce training.
