In May, first-year students of the Technogenic and Sanitary-Environmental Safety educational program, together with instructors of the Life Safety Cycle from the University of Logistics and Transport, took part in an educational environmental activity — an eco-trail organized at the Main Botanical Garden of Almaty.

During the event, participants explored the diversity of plant life, the characteristics of ecosystems from various natural and climatic zones, and the role of botanical gardens in preserving biodiversity. The students visited thematic areas where they became acquainted with collections of trees and shrubs, learned about their origin, ecological significance, and adaptation to different environmental conditions.

Special attention was given to issues of nature conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, and biodiversity preservation in the context of modern environmental challenges. The eco-trail enabled students not only to expand their theoretical knowledge in ecology but also to gain a practical understanding of the importance of environmental protection and ecological awareness.

Such activities contribute to the development of environmental culture among young people, foster a responsible attitude toward the environment, and support the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 “Quality Education,” SDG 13 “Climate Action,” and SDG 15 “Life on Land.”

Participation in the eco-trail became a valuable and inspiring experience for the students, allowing them to combine learning with practical exposure to the unique natural heritage of the city of Almaty.
