February 21, ALT University hosted a guest lecture on “Shunting Operations at the Station.” The speaker was Meirzhan Shayakhmetov, an instructor-driver of locomotive crews from TChE-28 in Almaty, who has extensive practical experience in railway transportation.
The lecture, organized by the ALT University Career Development Office, attracted students interested in transport logistics and railway operations. Mr. Shayakhmetov provided a detailed overview of shunting operations at railway stations, their importance in ensuring the seamless functioning of the transport system, and the modern technologies and methods used in the field.
He placed special emphasis on safety issues during shunting activities and shared real-life cases from his professional experience. Students actively engaged in discussions, asking questions about the specifics of working in locomotive crews and the preparation and control processes involved in shunting operations.
“Lectures like these offer insights into real working conditions and inspire students to pursue professional growth in the transport sector,” noted one of the event participants.
Such meetings with industry practitioners are an essential part of the educational process at ALT University, strengthening partnerships with industry representatives and enhancing students’ practical training.
