On October 29, 2026, in alignment with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), a guest lecture was hosted in Conference Hall B409 for the students and faculty of the Department of Transport Construction.

The lecture was delivered by key industry executives from “Metro Project” LLP (General Designer of the Almaty Metro): Nurken Sadybekovich Utegenov, Chief Engineer, and Erbolat Kanatuly Abi, Head of the “Track and Alignment” Department. The session was titled: “Construction of a Road Tunnel Under Active Railway Lines at Borandy Station Based on the Tunnel Design Engineering Executed in Place of an Existing Culvert for the Mainline Railway of the Taraz Line.”

“Metro Project” LLP developed the complete engineering package within an accelerated timeline on a pro bono basis. Construction was subsequently completed by NC KTZh JSC, and on October 25, 2026, the new 7.0-meter bridge structure was officially commissioned into service.

Notably, complex civil works were carried out continuously without interrupting rail traffic. Replacing the narrow drainage pipe with a proper bridge underpass delivers substantial social utility (SDG 9) to nearby local communities, providing safe everyday transit to regional schools, district centers, and regional hubs.
