The Older Generation — A Priceless National Asset
International Day of Older Persons is celebrated globally on October 1, reminding us of the profound respect owed to senior generations, their life experience, and wisdom.
On October 5, 2026, ALT University hosted an official event dedicated to the International Day of Older Persons. The gathering was organized under the leadership of Meruert Sovetkyzy Zharmagambetova, Chair of the Board – Rector of ALT University, and the executive leadership team.
More than 20 university veterans—distinguished seniors who have made significant contributions to the development of the university and the transport energy sector—were invited as honored guests. During the meeting, leadership shared the academic results of the past year and presented institutional strategic plans for the upcoming period.
As part of the “Silver University” lifelong learning initiative, specialized workshops were organized for the veterans, focusing on psychological well-being and digital skills development.
The first session was a psychological training program designed for self-discovery, emotional relief, and mental resilience. The workshop was conducted by Dariya Shabdenova, Head of the Office of Inclusive Education and Mental Health at ALT University, alongside consulting psychologist Nurkhan Kapar. Utilizing interactive, creative, and metaphorical techniques, participants engaged in mood assessment exercises, art therapy, breathing and physical movement practices, as well as exercises using metaphorical associative cards.
The second session was a practical workshop titled “Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in Daily Life,” led by Dinara Tugelbekovna Kassymova, Head of the Department of Computer Science. Veterans were introduced to modern digital services, ChatGPT features, voice search capabilities, and safe online navigation techniques. Special emphasis was placed on cybersecurity, equipping participants with skills to identify phishing attempts, fraudulent messages, and suspicious links through hands-on practice.
As part of ALT University’s ongoing 95th-anniversary celebrations, veterans were presented with commemorative anniversary gifts. The ceremonial reception concluded with shared memories, warm wishes, and student musical performances.
For ALT University, such gatherings reinforce intergenerational continuity. The professional expertise and wisdom of our veterans remain an integral part of ALT’s history and an inspiring benchmark for future engineers and specialists.
ALT University extends its warmest wishes to our esteemed veterans for good health, prosperity, longevity, and warmth in their homes!
