On 29 October 2026, second- to fourth-year students defended their case projects entitled “Developing a Plan for a Small Street and a Communication Network” as part of the course “Computer-Aided Design Systems in Telecommunications.” The project defence was held under the supervision of Kairzhanova A.A., a lecturer at the Department of Computer Science.

The main objective of the case project was to enable students to apply their theoretical knowledge of computer-aided telecommunications network design in practice and develop their technical drawing skills using AutoCAD. As part of the assignment, the students worked in teams to develop a plan for a small street and its communication network. Their drawings included residential buildings, roads, intersections, pavements, communication manholes and cable routes. The students also correctly marked the locations of the objects and added the required dimensions, conventional symbols and explanatory notes. Using the main AutoCAD tools, the students organised the drawing elements into layers, selected appropriate line types and thicknesses, and indicated the dimensions of objects and the distances between them. When designing the communication cable route, they considered safety requirements, the characteristics of the street infrastructure and the optimal placement of telecommunications manholes. During the project defence, each team presented its work and explained the structure of the street plan, the communication network route and the selected design solutions. The students described the stages of preparing the drawings and demonstrated the AutoCAD tools and commands used in their work. They also answered questions and provided clear justification for their decisions.

The case projects helped the students develop spatial thinking, technical drawing, teamwork and public presentation skills. Each project demonstrated the students’ attention to detail, creativity and interest in their chosen field of study.
