From 12 to 16 October 2026, as part of the implementation of SDG 4 “Quality Education” and SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,” students of group KG-24-1k enrolled in the “Cadastre and Urban Planning” educational programme of the Department of Civil Engineering completed practical work on the territory of ALT University.

The topic of the practical work was “Processing a Levelling Traverse and Checking the Permissible Misclosure.” The work was conducted under the supervision of Senior Lecturer and Mentor Ainura Melsovna Akshikbayeva and Assistant Lecturer Nuraiym Kairatovna Tasybayeva.

The main purpose of the practical work was to consolidate students’ theoretical knowledge of geometric levelling and develop their practical skills in operating geodetic instruments. The students learned how to set up and prepare the instruments for operation, take readings from levelling staffs, and comply with occupational safety requirements.

During the practical work, the students completed a levelling traverse and recorded the measurement results in a field book. Using the collected data, they calculated the height differences and elevations of the points and determined the actual misclosure of the levelling traverse. The actual value was compared with the permissible misclosure to assess the accuracy of the measurements.

SDG 4: Quality Education. The practical work combined theoretical instruction with practical training and contributed to the development of students’ professional competencies, independence, responsibility, and teamwork skills.

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. The use of modern levels, electronic theodolites, total stations, and GPS/GNSS receivers supported the adoption of innovative technologies and the development of competencies required for geodetic, cadastral, construction, and infrastructure projects.

As a result, the students gained experience in conducting field measurements, processing data, assessing the accuracy of levelling results, and applying modern geodetic technologies to professional tasks.
