Advisor-Curator Activities
At M. Tynyshbaev ALT University, group advisors-curators are appointed from among experienced teaching staff who are capable of organizing student collectives and conducting planned educational work within them.
Key personal requirements for a student group advisor-curator:
social and professional competence, personal readiness for educational work, high moral culture, civic responsibility, accountability, and ethical conduct.
The advisor-curator organizes his or her work under the supervision of the Deputy Director for Educational Work and is responsible for coordinating the educational and upbringing process in the assigned student group(s).
Main Areas and Objectives of Advisor-Curator Activities
To create conditions for students’ self-development and self-realization, to assist their successful social adaptation, personal and professional growth through the planning and organization of educational activities within the student group.
The main goal of the advisor-curator’s educational work is to develop in students a sense of civic responsibility and legal awareness, spirituality and culture, initiative, independence, tolerance, and the ability to achieve success in society.
Duties of the Advisor-Curator:
Study of each student’s personality: character, aptitudes, abilities, life experience, educational background, outlook on life, living and financial conditions;
Management of the professional and personal development processes of the group’s students;
Formation and organization of group work taking into account its individual characteristics;
Efforts to maintain student retention;
Creation of a favorable microclimate that promotes learning and creative self-expression;
Promotion of health values and a healthy lifestyle;
Assistance to first-year students in adapting to university life;
Development of students’ moral, aesthetic, political, and legal culture;
Organization of patriotic education;
Analysis of class schedule compliance, identification of underperforming students, organization of academic support, and implementation of measures to improve academic performance and attendance;
Cooperation with students’ parents.
Functional Responsibilities of the Advisor-Curator:
Planning group activities, organizing the election of the group leader and active members, distributing tasks, and monitoring their completion;
Promoting friendly and respectful relationships within the group;
Familiarizing students with internal regulations, dormitory rules, the student handbook, and university policies on social support and tuition fee discounts;
Involving students in creative, scientific, and social activities;
Conducting legal education, preventing unlawful behavior, and avoiding student involvement in destructive organizations;
Carrying out individual preventive work with students inclined toward antisocial behavior; studying their character and creating personal profiles;
Regular visits to student dormitories and assisting students in resolving everyday issues;
Monitoring tuition payments, academic progress, and attendance—engaging faculty and parents when necessary—and discussing the results of examinations and sessions;
Applying an individual approach to students, knowing their interests, inclinations, living conditions, and health status;
Assisting students in effectively managing study and leisure time and teaching self-planning skills;
Conducting career guidance work, encouraging participation in olympiads, competitions, and socially beneficial activities;
Preparing detailed group reports upon request;
Informing the department head about the academic affairs, needs, and morale of students;
Submitting semester reports, advisor-curator journals, and other required documentation to the Deputy Director for Educational Work on time;
Regularly conducting advisor-curator sessions: for first-year students—at least once every two weeks during the first semester, and thereafter—at least once a month;
Timely preparation of the electronic database of student groups.
