On August 18, 2026, ALT University hosted a meeting with vice-rectors of Almaty’s higher education institutions, focusing on university readiness for the upcoming academic year and the creation of a safe, comfortable campus environment for students.
The meeting was co-chaired by Akerke Abylaikhan, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee of Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Aziz Kazhdenbek, Head of the Youth Policy Department of Almaty.
Discussions centered on key factors directly impacting the quality of student life: security in academic buildings and student residences, accessibility of support services, the development of research activities, and opportunities for student-led initiatives.
During the session, participants addressed the operational readiness of academic facilities and dormitories for the new academic year, student safety protocols, the activities of situation and crisis support centers, as well as pathways for youth involvement in research projects and scientific grant programs.
Special focus was placed on the principle of youth participation in decision-making. It was emphasized that student-related matters should be discussed not merely on their behalf, but with their direct involvement—taking into account their perspectives, initiatives, and real needs.
Participants also noted that youth empowerment extends beyond modern infrastructure and new initiatives. Education plays a foundational role in enabling individuals to think critically, formulate questions, analyze information, and make informed choices.
As part of the event, copies of President Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev’s book, “Truthful Word for a Just Society” (“Әділетті қоғамға – шыншыл сөз”), were presented to Almaty universities. The publication compiles the Head of State’s perspectives on social and national development. Distributing these volumes aims to encourage students to engage with the concepts outlined, discuss pressing national issues, and form well-reasoned personal perspectives.
The future development of Almaty and Kazakhstan depends on the educational, personal, and professional opportunities provided to youth today. Consequently, student safety, high-quality education, research opportunities, and civic engagement remain central to the modern university agenda.
