On February 7 of this year, activists of the Alliance of ALT Students visited a nursing home in Almaty to give a little joy and warmth to those who especially need it. We did not come empty—handed – we had not only gifts, but also a good mood, which we tried to convey to everyone. Our friends, grandparents, told us about their lives, shared their memories, and even recalled poems from their youth.
It was nice to see their eyes light up when they talked about their favorite books or old hobbies. Some of us even participated in small games, sang songs and looked at old photos. At such moments, you feel how important it is to give attention and care to those who have given us a lot, but sometimes it turns out to be forgotten.
Older people inspire with their wisdom and vitality, and our meeting was not only a good thing for us, but also a lesson in life. We promise that we will continue to hold such meetings in the future — caring for the older generation should be a natural and important part of our lives.
