ALT University hosted a guest lecture by Kanat Amirbekov, driving instructor from the Almaty Operational Locomotive Depot, on the topic “Shunting Operations at the Station.” The event was organized for students specializing in Traction Rolling Stock, providing them with deeper insight into the work of locomotive crews and the operational processes at railway stations.

Drawing on his extensive practical experience, Kanat Amirbekov explained the key types of shunting operations, the action algorithms of a shunting locomotive, safety requirements, and the importance of coordination between the locomotive driver, the station duty officer, and shunting dispatchers. He emphasized how crucial clear communication and precision are for ensuring safety and efficiency.

The speaker also discussed common mistakes and non-standard situations encountered in real practice. Using examples from his professional experience, he demonstrated how to assess risks, make correct operational decisions, and ensure the timely and safe execution of shunting tasks.

Students actively engaged in the discussion, asking questions about the technical specifics of shunting locomotives, railway equipment, and career opportunities within locomotive depots. Kanat Amirbekov shared valuable recommendations, stressing the importance of responsibility, strong professional training, and continuous development.

The guest lecture became a meaningful, practice-oriented session that broadened students’ understanding of shunting operations and strengthened the connection between ALT University’s educational programs and the real needs of the railway industry.
