History of the department
In 1996, by a decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the two universities AADI and AlIIT were merged and renamed the Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications (KazATC).
From 1977 to 2009, the “Automobile Roads” Department trained engineers specializing in “Construction of Automobile Roads and Airfields.”
In 2008, the department graduated its first class of bachelors from the educational programs 5V072900 (050729.05) – “Construction of Automobile Roads and Airfields” and 5V072900 (050729.05.02) – “Construction of Railways, Track, and Track Facilities.”
In 2009, the “Design, Construction, and Operation of Automobile Roads” department was transformed into the “Transport Construction” department.
In 2010, KazATC enrolled its first master’s students in the specialty 5V074500 (6M074500) – “Transport Construction.”
In December 1993, by a decision of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a specialized Council K 21.01.01 was opened at AlIIT for the defense of candidate dissertations in the specialty 05.22.06 “Railway Track.” In 2003, it was authorized to accept doctoral dissertations.
The department was renamed “Transport Construction” in 2009.
In the 2021-2022 academic year, the “Transport Construction” and “Rolling Stock” departments were merged into a single department called “Trunkline Engineering.”
In September of the 2022-2023 academic year, the “Trunkline Engineering” department was split into two: “Construction Engineering” and “Rolling Stock.”
Due to an increase in the number of students in the construction and architectural educational programs, the “Construction Engineering” department was divided into two departments in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Starting in September 2024, the department is named “Architectural and Construction Engineering” and trains specialists in the following educational programs:
- 6B07130 – “Automobile Roads and Airfields” (ADA)
- 6B07324 – “Construction of Automobile Roads and Airfields” (SADA)
- 6B07131 – “Linear Pipelines” (LT)
- 6B07322 – “Construction of Oil and Gas Facilities” (SNGO)
- 6B07339 – “Construction of Oil and Gas Facilities” (SNGO)
- 6B07329 – “Construction of Industrial and Civil Buildings and Structures” (SPGZS)
- 6B07330 – “Architecture of Buildings and Structures” (AZS)
For master’s educational programs:
- 7M07160 – “Transport Structures” (specialized, 1.5 years)
- 7M07159 – “Transport Structures” (scientific and pedagogical, 2 years)
- 7M07345 – “Transport Construction” (specialized, 1.5 years)
- 7M07346 – “Transport Construction” (scientific and pedagogical, 2 years)
For the doctoral educational program:
- 8D07165 – “Transport Structures” (scientific and pedagogical, 3 years)
Starting in September 2025, the department will offer new educational programs:
- 6B07347 – “Digital Construction and BIM-Technologies”
- 6B07177 – “Oil and Gas Transport Engineering” (NTS)
- 6B07183 – “Smart Roads: Digital Technologies in Transport Structures”
- 6B07348 – “Construction of Automobile Roads and Airfields” (SADA)
- 7M07351 – “Transport Construction Management” (specialized, 1 year)
Currently, the department is fully staffed with highly qualified professors. It has a well-equipped educational and laboratory base and a computer lab. The department’s faculty is considered one of the best among CIS universities specializing in automobile roads. It conducts active scientific research and has close international ties with transport universities and research institutes in the CIS, with industry, and with transport and informatization academies of the Russian Federation.
The main activities of the laboratory:
Assessment of the reliability and stability of artificial structures in the transport industry.
- Inspection and testing of bridge structures, culverts, and other artificial structures on roads and railways, including technical condition assessment, determination of permissible moving loads, and development of recommendations for fault correction and extension of safe operation life.
- Development of monitoring systems for structures.
- Training, specialization, and internships for road specialists.
Geological and engineering surveys.
- Field research of soils.
- Laboratory research of soils and groundwater.
- Research of foundation soils for existing buildings and structures.
Training of specialists with professional competencies for the automobile and road industry, who meet the growing demands for quality in the fields of design, construction, maintenance, and repair of automobile roads and airfields using new, innovative technologies.
